Climate

The climate crisis and the loss of biodiversity are among the greatest challenges of our time. Protecting large areas of nature helps reduce CO2 emissions and safeguards essential ecosystems. The Wildhood Foundation works to protect wilderness areas that absorb millions of tons of CO2 emissions, contributing to a sustainable future.

Help us protect the climate

Support our work of maintaining ecosystems and preserve biodiversity

Climate change and biodiversity loss are two of the most urgent challenges our planet is currently facing.

Protecting nature at scale is essential for restoring ecological balance and preserving ecosystems that provide clean air, water, food security and a livable climate. Nature’s role in carbon sequestration is an essential component of climate action. By safeguarding vast ecosystems, we contribute to climate change mitigation by preserving carbon sinks, ensuring that the environment continues to absorb carbon.

OUR WORK

Wildhood Foundation supports the protection of 5 million hectares of wilderness across five African countries – ecosystems that altogether sequester approximately 20 million tonnes of carbon annually, equivalent to taking 4.5 million vehicles off the road yearly.

The global 30×30 pledge, aiming to protect 30% of the planet’s land and oceans by 2030, represents the greatest environmental ambition of our civilization. It is a critical framework for mitigating climate change, safeguarding biodiversity and ensuring the survival of countless species. Achieving this goal requires collaboration, political will and innovative conservation models.

Through long-term agreements with local and Indigenous communities, our work continues towards the goal of protecting 75 million hectares, equivalent to 8.3% of Africa’s 30×30 global pledge by the end of this decade.

Help us protect larger areas of land and the biodiversity in nature to keep mitigating climate change! For every € 5 you secure the protection of 1 hectare of wilderness in Africa’s most biodiverse ecosystems for an entire year.

THE GLOBAL GOALS

By protecting and restoring ecosystems and biodiversity Wildhood actively contributes to the objectives of Sustainable Development Goal 15: Life on Land which is also key to fighting climate change (SDG 13) which also affects goals 14; Life below water and 6; Clean water and sanitation. Several development goals are met through supporting the employment of women from poor rural communities. Direct effects are reduced poverty and hunger (SDG 1, 2 & 3), increased equality (SDG 5 & 10), decent working conditions and economic growth (SDG 8, 16, 9 & 7) and higher education levels (SDG 4 & 10) as more children go to school.
